The new scheme could encourage parents to send kids to primary school at an even younger age. Larry Fleming, spokesman for the Irish Primary Principals Network, says parents will be able to avail of the free pre-school places when their children are three years and three months old. "Many will choose to send children to school once the year is over.'' The scheme is intended to benefit children in the year before they start primary school. The big development in early childhood education in Ireland from January will be the provision of a year's free pre-school education to children.
